Previous editions
After 3 years of preparation, the first edition of the Students' Games was held in April 2018.
Inspired by the major student events in Lausanne and elsewhere, 420 students competed together to
mark the very first edition. Coming from a dozen institutions across Switzerland and neighbouring
France, it was finally the University of Burgundy that won the title followed closely by local teams
from EPFL and the University of Lausanne who completed the podium. The start of the Students' Games
had been launched.
For the 2019 edition, the organising committee made two major changes: the Saturday lunch is
delivered on time and the Saturday evening party is entirely managed by us. It is not surprising
that the Swiss punctuality once again restored and the festive energy of the Lausanne campus
together succeeded to the EPFL team which won this time in front of the University of Burgundy. The
University of Lausanne managed to keep its 3rd place.
Sadly, the third edition was postponed by more than one year due to Covid-19 pandemic. In October
2021, the tournament was finally back, bringing together 520 athletes. Only six months later, in May
2022, more than 500 students gathered once again in Lausanne during an unforgettable weekend.
Students' Games are back for good, and about to become a key student sporting event in Switzerland
and neighboring countries.
The last three editions (2023, 2024 and 2025) confirm the growing momentum of the Students' Games with over
600 participants at each edition. The 2023 edition marked a turning point with 30 delegations from across
Switzerland and neighboring France, EPFL winning the title ahead of ASUB and the University of Basel. In 2024,
the event opened up more to international participation with German delegations (Karlsruhe) and saw the introduction
of Roundnet and Unihockey among the 13 sports offered, with the University of Grenoble Alpes (UGA) taking first place.
The 2025 edition continued this international expansion with delegations from Belgium, the Czech Republic and Lebanon,
while marking the return of Pétanque among the 12 sports on the program. Each year, 230 participants and 48 teams
are awarded, demonstrating the excellence and competitive spirit that drives this now essential event in Swiss and
European university sports life.
